Monthly Blog

March, 2010

After approximately four years, I had the blessed opportunity to travel back to India, my motherland that had bestowed on me life changing experiences during my previous three month visit with my husband who was doing his medical elective in diabetes research. You can read about the jewels of that previous journey in my book. This time, I was brought to India as my sister had just finished her Moksha Yoga Teacher Training in Kerala and my parents thought this would be a wonderful bonding experience for "the ladies" (my mom, sister and I) to journey together and that it is exactly what this trip has been thus far.

Our first week began in serene lush green exotic Kerala, nature's paradise in abundance with palm trees, birds, animals, butterflies, dragonflies, insects, tea and spice plantations & Ayurvedic natural treatments. It was simply Divine in its purity, bringing forth peace & tranquility. Staying one night in a houseboat blessed us in nature's haven as the three of us were showered with the sights and sounds of Kerala's backwaters. The three of us engaged in yoga lead by my sister followed by me leading a meditation to heal the mind, body and soul. As we marveled in the beauty that surrounded us, we wrote our intentions for this month long journey together and began enriching our bond further.

After the houseboat, we reached our next destination in Kerala, a small town called Thekaddy and were most warmly greeted. Namaskar, meaning " I bow to you" with both hands pressed together and held at the heart was shared by everyone who came across our path along with a warm smile. I learned further that the hands held together in union signifies the oneness of dual cosmos bringing together spirit and matter. Therefore, it's customary for them to greet everyone and that acknowledgement made me realize how we lack it in Western society. Furthermore, their care and concern for Mother Earth was remarkable and clearly evident when we were asked to use energy and water conservatively. If each of us does our part in preserving Mother Earth, we will collectively make positive changes towards protecting our environment, the sacred home we have been graciously given.

After a glorious week in Kerala, we embarked on the rest of our journey to explore in the richness of culture each city offers; or stops include Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Udaipur, Mount Abu, Jaipur, Varanasi & Delhi/Agra. Stay tuned for more blogs of my journey through India!
